O’Reilly, You’re SOOO Naive!

September 17, 2009 on 4:03 am | In Culture Scene, National Political | 2 Comments

Just heard O’Reilly say that if Jimmy Carter had called Obama up and asked him if he should play the race card, Obama would have begged him not to. Oh, please Bill. The race card is one of the last cards the Obama has to play in forcing ObamaCare upon us! Yes it is making some people mad- but it is also being pretty effective in villifying Joe Wilson. When team Obama asked the also naive Jimmy Carter to carry the race card for them they knew there would be blowback- but they also knew it might intimidate some ObamaCare opponents. I’m sure Obama’s people find it a political strategy well worth trying. While the President leaves no fingerprints and is so shocked and upset that anyone would introduce race. Yea. Right. I bet O’Reilly thinks magicians really cut ladies in half… sjm

Jimmy Hauls the Race Card

September 17, 2009 on 2:29 am | In Culture Scene, National Political | No Comments

Jimmy’s back and he’s talking racism. Jimmy Carter is so sad. I know I’ve said this before, but Invariably he reminds of that girl- you know the one- every high school has one. She’s not very bright. She’s desperate to be popular. She believes every line she’s fed. She’d sleep with anybody- do anything to be in with the “popular crowd”. That’s Jimmy Carter. You really think he did a thoughtful analysis of the Joe Wilson incident and decided it was racial? I doubt it. More likely: Rahm or David or some other member of Obama’s really cool “in” crowd called on Jimmy and blew in his ear. They flattered him a little. What am I saying? They flattered him a lot. I can just hear it-“These right-wing-racists are attacking the President. He’d love to talk about it himself- but he can’t lose the support of white people. We need a volunteer to haul this big, heavy race card for us. You’d be perfect as our most prestigious living President.”

And so our Jimmy of easy political virtue goes down again. This is not the first time the Obama gang has sent this doddering fool out to introduce a hot potato for them. Believe me- it won’t be the last. Sheila Murphy, Editor

Kanye West and racism

September 14, 2009 on 9:56 pm | In Culture Scene, National Political | No Comments

Does anybody really believe that Kanye West would have marched onto stage and rudely snatched the microphone away from Taylor Swift if she’d been a black female recording artist? NO WAY. West would never had done that. People say this is about West being drunk. Please! He hasn’t been sober in a decade. Nor is this about his lack of class (which is always apparent). Nope. This is about racism- plain and simple- and about all the culture watchdogs afraid to say so.- SJM

Congressman King the Courageous Stands Alone

July 8, 2009 on 6:45 pm | In Culture Scene, National Political | No Comments

Rep. Steve King of Iowa’s "Fightin’ Fifth District" stands alone in opposition to ridiculous political correctness and DC game-playing.Yesterday we saw a rarity- a Congressional vote of 399 to 1. The vote was on a resolution to have a marker appear in the new Capitol Visitor Center stating that African-American slaves were involved in the building of the structure. The marker is to be made of stone quarried by slaves.King states he has no objection to something acknowledging the contributions of slaves, so why the lonely "no" vote?  King gave an interview to Scott Voorhees, whose morning talk show airs on News Radio 1110 KFAB in Omaha, Nebraska, to answer just that question. King said that he had  come to the "end of his patience" in  dealing with what he called "quid pro quo" deals on Capitol Hill.King stated that the Architect of the Capital has been making a determined effort to "scrub" the nation’s capitol of any reference to Christianity. According to King, the Architect has gone so far as to refuse to give ceremonial flags with a certificate that features the wording "In the Year of Our Lord". He has scrubbed any mention of God from Congressional chambers. King described the striking of a deal with the Architect by which he would permit the display of the national motto "In God We Trust" and the Pledge of Allegiance as containing the word God in the new public building. In return Representatives and Senators agreed to support the slavery marker and to change the name of the Great Hall to "Emancipation Hall".King stated that his ancestor had fought for the abolition of slavery and that he himself was a great admirer of Martin Luther King."I would have been an abolitionist if I’d been alive then", said King.King expressed great concern about efforts to remove signs of Christianity as that religion plays a very important role in our history. King also suggested that when we remember the 645,000 slaves that came to this country we should also member the hundreds of thousands of Union soldiers who died, most of them white, ostensibly to win freedom for slaves.I am grateful to Voorhees for bringing the facts of this to light. We all owe tremendous gratitude to Iowa’s Congressman Steve  King for having the courage to stand up for his principles. We salute him, also,  for not yielding to the insidious extortion that is practiced against anyone who is not "politically correct", especially in the treacherous arena of Washington race politics. The major issue here, for me, is the role of the Architect. I will be studying the position and the man who wields such power through it. It disgusts me that our elected officials must go to such lengths to preserve the inclusion of our acceptance of God in our national culture. The Spectacle Surrounding Michael Jackson- It’s Just Human Nature

July 2, 2009 on 2:35 pm | In Culture Scene, National Political | 1 Comment

Whenever a well known, iconic figure in our culture dies, the same debate always ensues. Just drop in the latest name- Anna Nicole, Michael. Some folks become apoplectic because so much attention is paid to discussion of the celebrity.

I say: don’t fight it. It is part of human nature. You cannot change human nature, no matter what other issues may loom. I know the import of other events right now, but this has happened before. It will happen again.

Humanity has always acted this way. We devote our attentions to the narrow focus of our lives most of the time. Our circles are contained. We don’t relate with the same people- usually. The exception is a mega-celebrity. Michael Jackson is known to all of us. People are strangely united on a very human level as they discuss his death and life. For a while, he is the eccentric relative everybody shares. It fills a human need.

Those who valued hard news before- still do and will find it.This will soon pass and attentions will return to other matters. Angry pundits should take a deep breath, come to understand this and save their outrage for meaningful issues.

Another point to consider is the sad realization that Jackson’s demise is getting attention beyond all others because of the invisible threat that a failure to cover every little thing is racism. Especially sad in the fact that whatever good or dreadful things Michael Jackson may have done in his life he strove to erase color distinctions. He achieved that astoundingly well. In his death, the Jaime Foxes of the world rob him of that.

Pettiness Unbecoming on Letterman

March 6, 2009 on 10:09 am | In Culture Scene, National Political | No Comments

Something horrible happened to me last night. I got off the phone and discovered that the David Letterman Show was on. He was belittling Rush Limbaugh’s clothing, appearance, etc. at his CPAC speech, saying he looked like a member of the Russian Mafia. It was petty- and a little hard to take from a guy who makes Andy Rooney look young and pleasant!
