Moderate Pawlenty, Schmidt, McCain All Hit Headlines at Once- Coincidence?

October 4, 2009 on 12:59 am | In National Political | No Comments

If you believe that there are coincidences in presidential politics raise your hands. Nope, I didn’t think so. When someone sneezes, it is probaby by design. We have Tim Pawlenty, launching the pinball in his presidential game. He calls himself conservative in certain venues and “center-right” the rest of the time. I think moderate describes him well. When McCain had him number one in the veep seepstakes, we heard a lot from McCain about how moderate Pawlenty would expand the GOP tent. But then in an effort to molify millions of disgusted conservatives, McCain went with Palin. Enter Steve Schmidt, McCain’s Campaign Manager, who shares the headlines with Pawlenty by trashing Sarah Palin, her conservatism and the GOP dare it become Conservative. But wait, there’s more. Also muscling into the headlines, by a strange quirk of timing, is McCain himself, making a statement about the importance of moving the Party away from Conservatism. Meanwhile, the moderate Country-Club-Elites who still have way too much power offer Pawlenty as the GOP’s face to every news outlet known to man. Coincidence? You tell me. And while you’re at it let me know how you think a milktoast moderate will play as a contrast to Obama- AGAIN!- Sheila J. Murphy, Editor
