Gore Thinks He’s Churchill? Delusional!

July 8, 2009 on 6:21 pm | In National Political | No Comments

The other day Al Gore tried to Channel Winston Churchill in equating the dangers of global warming to the Nazi attempt at global domination. He fell just a teeny bit short of calling those of us who differ from his mad scientist view as Nazis, ourselves.

Does this fool have no limits? Everyday more and more of the scientific community is standing up to admit that climate change is basically dictated by natural occurances and that man has little impact and that, yes, we have global cooling, instead. Even the polar bears have jumped on “the global warming/climate change is junk science” bandwagon, with their population growing at record rates.

Yet, there we have ole’ Al, clinging to last year’s brochures, praying he can still make a fortune off of his green businesses.

Equating the climate with Hitler has to be the definition of a desperate ploy. It does amuse me, however, to envision Al as he scurries out of the way of goose-stepping carbon emissions… SJM

The Spectacle Surrounding Michael Jackson- It’s Just Human Nature

July 2, 2009 on 2:35 pm | In Culture Scene, National Political | 1 Comment

Whenever a well known, iconic figure in our culture dies, the same debate always ensues. Just drop in the latest name- Anna Nicole, Michael. Some folks become apoplectic because so much attention is paid to discussion of the celebrity.

I say: don’t fight it. It is part of human nature. You cannot change human nature, no matter what other issues may loom. I know the import of other events right now, but this has happened before. It will happen again.

Humanity has always acted this way. We devote our attentions to the narrow focus of our lives most of the time. Our circles are contained. We don’t relate with the same people- usually. The exception is a mega-celebrity. Michael Jackson is known to all of us. People are strangely united on a very human level as they discuss his death and life. For a while, he is the eccentric relative everybody shares. It fills a human need.

Those who valued hard news before- still do and will find it.This will soon pass and attentions will return to other matters. Angry pundits should take a deep breath, come to understand this and save their outrage for meaningful issues.

Another point to consider is the sad realization that Jackson’s demise is getting attention beyond all others because of the invisible threat that a failure to cover every little thing is racism. Especially sad in the fact that whatever good or dreadful things Michael Jackson may have done in his life he strove to erase color distinctions. He achieved that astoundingly well. In his death, the Jaime Foxes of the world rob him of that.

Honduras Is NOT a Military Coup

July 2, 2009 on 2:32 pm | In National Political | No Comments

The Obama “party line” is that the removal of Zelaya as President of Honduras is just another military-dictatorship brutally deposing democratic governance. Even Fox News reports on the recent have obediently parroted this perspective. Fortunately, some of the Fox pundits have shown independent thought. Hopefully, soon all will realize that what has happened is not a military coup- strictly speaking.

Its true that in years past the historical landscape of South and Central America has been dotted with what really were military coups- situations in which factions in the military overthrew a legitimate government in a ruthless power grab.

That is far from the current situation in Honduras. Here we have a President who was elected but has been making open movements away from a democratic government in a blatant imitation of the dictatorial socialism of his mentor, Hugo Chaves.

Taking action directly from Chaves’ playbook, Zelaya made Herculean efforts to neuter constitutional constraints on his serving beyond the current term he his allowed. On this and other issues, Zelaya has tried to act in contradiction to the congress and the courts. He has behaved aggressively and has not been above using the nebulous threat of Chaves’ military support as a club.

So, in the interests of protecting Democracy against Zelaya/Chaves’ Marxist and socialists designs, THE LEGISLATIVE AND THE JUDICIAL BRANCHES OF THE HONDURAN GOVERNMENT INSIGATED A BLOODLESS COUP AND INSTRUCTED THE MILITARY TO IMPLEMENT IT.

This is a far cry from the anti-democracy military takeovers that are being insinuated by the Obama Administration and the gutless Organization of American States.

Why is Obama winding up on the wrong side of a fight for democracy in Central America? Because Ortega, Castro, Chaves, and Zelaya are a very slick fraternity and the new American President is their new plebe. Obama, the cocky young freshman thinks he’s smarter than all of them. He has no idea what real hazing is like…

Sanford No Reagan

July 1, 2009 on 9:19 pm | In National Political | No Comments

Some say that it is such a shame about Mark Sanford- he could have been our new Reagan. I don’t think so. What would the slogan have been- “Win One for the Zipper”?-
