Stop Giving Obama Cover!
June 9, 2009 on 10:22 pm | In National Political | No Comments(reprinted from the web magazine, daily Fix page wwww.thecoolconservative.com) A Roar from the Right-Daily Battlefield Communiques for Conservatives on the Front Line:I saw Barack Obama cowering behind the shadow of George Bush yesterday- again. As we watch him dismantle the foundations of our economy it seems unbelievable that he thinks he can shift the blame for this collapse to his predecessor, but then, he has a lot of help in this regard from surprising sources.I believe it is fashionable – a bit of a fad- the cool thing to do- to include George Bush in the blame game for this mess. We hear it from Libertarian and conservative pundits and "broad-minded Republicans. The Newt’s of the world jump on the bandwagon readily. All the third-party-power-wanabees cannot resist the temptation to roast a donkey and a pachyderm on the same grill. But is wrong. It is giving Obama cover he does not deserve and, again it is wrong. I for one will not parrot this mantra just because it is in vogue. I have often disagreed with Bush. But the truth is the truth. He did a masterful job with the economy after 9-11. Even though he had to maintain entitlement programs that he did not start- like Medicare and social security for a Baby Boom generation exploding into them for the first time under his term, – and even though he maintained a war on terror of a scope and expense that this nation has never seen and maintained two standard wars, and even though our country was hit by a devastating hurricane, George Bush did make visible efforts to contain his own discretionary spending and did oversee an economy remarkably stable.I’ve said it before and I’ll repeat: Bush’s biggest flaws were his failure to "sell" his actions to the American people and to be politically naive. When someone like Barack Obama talks about nonpartisanship, it is only feel-good rhetoric. Bush on the other hand actually practiced it. allowed many partisan Democrats into his administration because he believed that they would put Country ahead of Party. He was very, very wrong when it came to some people involved with the Treasury and Federal Reserve. Obama devotees like Geithner and Summers and Paulson took actions and gave counsel that led directly to the surprising and oh-so-conveniently timed economic problems that gave the election to Obama. No, It was not an accident. And although the original TARP was ill-advised, it was not designed nor intended by Bush to be more than a short-termed loan, nor was it the first time the government had stepped inin a temporary way, not intended to open the door to socialism, eg the steel and airline industries. No, ALL of these self-serving voices must stop now enabling Obama to share his guilt with Bush. Bush dropped the patient off with a sore toe. The Obama adminstration has subjected the patient to dozens of unneeded major surgeries and pumped him full of hundreds of strong, harmful drugs. The patient is now near death and the Obama doctors tell us they will put "sore toe" as the cause of death on the death certificate. You only have to read my other writings to know that I am a strong critic of the Republican Party, so I do not make this pleading for partisan reasons. It is for the good of the nation that I beg all of you out there who begin every condemnation of Obama’s fiasco with a condemnation of Bush, Stop. Just Stop. Obama doesn’t need your help. If you want to further your own political goals by continually trashing both parties equally, please find another avenue. This is the time to save our country- not personal political fortunes.– SJM
