Grassley Links Sotomayor to Bork. Tough and Brilliant!
May 28, 2009 on 7:36 pm | In Iowa Political, National Political | No CommentsSenator Chuck Grassley, Iowa, has made a good start in what we hope will be very tough opposition to Sotomayor. By linking the horrible treatment that Reagan-nominated Robert Bork to Sotomayor, Grassley achieves multiple goals. He reminds the Democrats that what they did to Bork is NOT fogotten or forgiven and that we learned from them how to do it. Grassley, senior on the Judiciary Committee, has the power and the opportunity to set a tone for GOP leaders in the Senate. Congrulations, Senator, on taking the lead and giving the Nations Republicans just we they need. Please keep it up-we’re behind you!
For Republican Leadership Sotomayor Is a Watershed Moment
May 27, 2009 on 1:25 am | In Uncategorized | No CommentsLeft-leaning mediatypes and Democrat talking heads revealed a vital peice of their strategy to approve Sotomayor. They seized on Rush’s terse but accurate description of Sotomayor as a “reverse racist”. “Surely the Republican leadership will not want to be connected to such a pepugnant statement”, “Certainly, Rush Limbugh does not speak for the Party and the GOP will support her to show that Limbaugh does not control them.” and on and on with similar remarks.
Perhaps the most important thing to observe in this entire confirmation process will be the behavior the Republicans and their leadership. If they fall for the amateurishly predictable Democrat bait and fail to fight this dangerously activist judge with EVERYTHING they’ve got, it will be a mistake with devastating repercussions. –sjm
“Star Wars” Is Needed- As Usual, Reagan Was Right
May 27, 2009 on 1:08 am | In National Political | No CommentsIn 1983 President Ronald Reagan proposed a defense system that could virtually render harmless nuclear warheads in flight. His statements and propoasals were inspired by recent scientific developments that he believed could, with more research and development, replace the previously prominent defense/deterent stratey of MAD (mutually assured destruction). Reagan forsaw an ever-increasing need for the United States and her allies to defend aginst nuclear missile attack. He was also driven by his desire to replace strategies that would include devastating destruction here and elsewhere with a destruction of the weapons, only, before they could do real harm. Led by a ridiculing press, Reagan’s plans were derided mercilessly by his detractors and his plans were only fractionally employed. During the Clinton years, missile defense systems were markedly weakened. With the recent actions of North Korea, guided by an unrelenting drive for world domination, and the actions of Iran, driven by a terrifying “suicide bomber” mentality, Reagan’s vision of a space -based defense suddenly doesn’t seem so silly. While everybody is demanding the development of effective defense strategies, remember that we’d be decades ahead if not for the media, the democrats and the Clinton Administration. -sjm
Sotomayor- Not Just a Move to the Left- a Move Toward a Lack of Civility
May 26, 2009 on 9:36 pm | In National Political, Uncategorized | No CommentsWe Know who Obama is now. We know his brand of political gamesmanship. Sotomayor is just what he wants- someone who will allow her decisions to be guided by their shared ultra-left agenda and, someone who, I suspect, will dramatically alter the civility and discretion of the Court, as it has existed until now despite the political leanings of any Justice. Brace yourselves for a Justice who will make heretofore dignified disagreements about law into raucous personal disputes… between good and evil-”social compassion” and evil. Prepare for language that is more volitle and unrefined. Prepare for a Justice who will tell tales out of chambers and go on “The View” to disparage Clarence Thomas… – SJM
KUDOS TO KING! Iowa Congressman Tries to Exclude Pediphiles- Add Military to Dem Hate Crime Bill
May 6, 2009 on 3:44 pm | In Iowa Political, National Political | No CommentsIowa’s Representative Steve King is making a stand to bring some common sense to the Democrat Hate Crime bill. The Law would allow for dramatically expanded sentences for those convicted of committing a “hate crime”. The Bill focuses on sexual orientation , both homosexual and heterosexual. King’s contention is that according to psychiatric definitions of sexual behaviors pediphiles would be included , thereby making them, in essence, a protected group under this law. King introduced an amendment that would exclude pediphiles specifically. The amemndemnt received no votes from all Democrats, as did King’s additional efforts to include military personnel and veterans within the protected groups. Democrats also rejected this.
I believe that hate crime legislation is intrinsically ridiculous. It implies the notion that only a fes, special crimes are prompted by hate. What are the others- love crimes? Our criminal justice system is headed down a treacherous path
when sentencing ceases to be based on the nature of the crime, itself, but on someone’s judgement that the perpetrator was prompted by some particular prejudice. Our sentencing system is based in statistical measurement with established parameters. This is intended to preserve fairness. Expansion of hate crimes sentencing ramifications will introduce a myriad of unquantifiable factors. It will open up sentencing to too much opinion and personalmleanings. IT WILL CRIPPLE JUSTICE. WE SHOULD ALL BE THANKFUL TO King for trying to stop this.

Obama Is Considering a “Centrist” for Supreme Court??? Oh, Yeah and I’m the Queen of England
May 5, 2009 on 6:35 pm | In National Political | No CommentsSo, Obama made a call toOrin Hatch to talk about the Supreme Court vacancy. And he’s made some remarks about finding someone who “strictly follows The Costitution or the Rule of Law” and so forth. And so people in the Katie Couric IQ class are all aflutter because he’s reaching out and will not take an extreme liberal as the GOP feared. OH please! This is just standard PR from the Obama gang. They want Republican feedback. It is as if Barack Obama were having a party. There were people he had to invite but he didn’t want them to come. He learned the unfavored group would all be an important meeting that night so he chose it for the night of his party. He took many bows for reaching out with his invitations, but only the most gulible fell for it.
The only similar appointment opportunity Obama has had was Attorney General. He hand picked Eric Houler. Enough said.
OOPS!!! Looks like the Flu Didn’t Work this Time- They’ll Find Something Else
May 5, 2009 on 3:06 am | In National Political | No CommentsEveryone seems up in arms about the dramatic actions taken by entities such as the CDC, WHO and schools in preparation for a flu pandemic and the fact that such precautions, at least for now, are not needed. “Why?’, “How did this happen?”, all the talking heads wonder.
The answer is simple. The Administration thought that fate had handed them another crisis- ripe for use and manipulation. They were oh-so-ready and oh-so-close to putting our entir health care system under a martial law type of nationalization.
NOT TO WORRY. THEY ARE READY TO POUNCE ON THE NEXT CRISIS- NO MATTER WHAT IT IS. Just keeping a vigilant watch for such a health crisis could be some person’s special job at the White House. Maybe that’s what Napolitano does.
Obama Really is Transparent
May 5, 2009 on 2:52 am | In National Political | No CommentsI thought transparency in government was just another Obama urban legend- but BAM- there he is being incredibly transparent. For years democrats have bartered with a certain faction of labor union leadership. They’ve promised much for votes delivered to the door like so much room service. But hey have been oblique- hiding and denying the arrangement. Now Obama is openly paying off his union tab very publicly. He is denying corporate ownership to those rightfully entitiled to give it to loyal union bosses. Could not be more shamelessly open and yes- transparent!
Houlder and Obama Cower Behind the “Rule of Law”
May 5, 2009 on 2:45 am | In National Political | No CommentsIt is hard to believe that Attorney General Houlder would even consider helping a Spanish judge in the witchhunt to punish the previous administration. And yet- here we are. I believe Houlder cannot wait to accomplish the administration’s vengence goal without dirtying the skirts of democrats in the Congress. Houlder has already telegraphed his rationale: The Obama Administration is SOOO scrupulously devoted to the “Rule of Law” that they feel obliged to cooperate with the rule of law in other countries. As cowardly as it is absurd.
Getting a First Lady Profile…
May 5, 2009 on 2:36 am | In National Political | No CommentsI hate to get on the bandwagon about the gaudy $540.00 designer tennis shoes that Michelle wore to feed the poor. I remember how merciless the press was about EVERYTHING Nancy Reagan did. But… It’s hard to resist. Hillary channelled Eleanor Roosevelt- Michelle is apparently channeling Imelda Marcoss!
