For Some Obama Vote a Financial Bargain

November 14, 2008 on 6:41 pm | In National Political | No Comments

Many Obama supporters did cast their votes with the noblest of intentions and the purest of hearts, but for many others it was something else.Throughout the campaign, Obama’s salespitch was always there- darting around behind the casual wit & conservative-sounding vernacular. For those who were listening for it, it was always there-in every issue- in every campaign promise: MONEY. It was always about MONEY. Every day he let these voters know that if they voted for him, in return, somehow, someday, he would make sure they got money- stimulus checks, forgiven loans, cheap insurance, free health care- whatever. They floated to the polling places, basking in the warm fantasy of being coddled cradle to grave by a loving government. So, on November 4th, many of us went to vote with hands extended in needy, greedy supplication. They marked their ballots and kept their part of the bargain. For them, it wasn’t an election. It was a transaction.
