Debate Reflections
October 8, 2008 on 4:41 am | In National Political | 1 CommentAll the pundits are hauling out their hammers to put another nail in the McCain-Palin coffin. They say that although McCain did well- and may even have won on substance- the fact that he failed to hit a homerun equals a loss. Oh PALEEZE! I’ve seen McCain better- but no undecided will count him out based on this. As usual. Obama was smooth with a penchant to say what others want to hear and a tendency toward smug glibness. McCain did not answer every attack directly BUT- he is improved in this area. He needs to find a way to communicate things like his healthcare plan in a way an earthling can understand. On the upside- McCain did establish himself as reliable- someone upon whom we can depend to rise above political games and to deal with foreign powers in a resolute but diplomatic fashion. Debates Are A Groaner
Well it was presidential debate night but it seemed more like fight night. Tom Brokaw…although at times lost control of the debate I thought did a good job in getting to the heart of the questions and not taking sides. I felt there were two winners…Obama won for being “Mr. Smooth” but McCain won on “substance”. They probably will not take my suggestion,,,but I would love to see the format of the meetings between the two candidates changed(Obama wants change right?) from a debate to a forum. Each candidate asked the same question and given a certain amount of time to present their position, platform or how they intend to deal with the issue that was brought up in the question. They are only allowed to talk position…in the allocted time and they are not given the opportunity to mention their opponent. That way we will know how the candidates stand on the issues so important to the American public without any finger pointing. In addition it would be good for the candidates to remember the old addage that “if you point a finger at someone…four are pointing back at you”.
